Nominated Youth Community Service Ambassador from Sri Lanka
KAPILA RATHNAYAKA R.M.
My Plans for GYSD:
My Target is to enroll 1000 youth in my GYSD activities.
Even though the majority of Sri Lankan population is youth, Youth's involvement in leadership has been constrained by societal norms. Fewer youth are engaged in Sexual rights and decision-making positions. This project will address these issues in a youth's perspective.
"Youth To Lead Social Change, A Performing Arts Project To Empower youth To Address Sexual rights and HIV/SRHR Issues" Is a project to Set up A Network Of Young Performers across Sri Lanka to ACT – Act! Challenge! Transform!
At the initial stage, six small groups of youth artist will be selected from six Universities and institute based on towns in the country : University of Colombo, University of Jayawardhanapura ,University of kelaniya ,National Institute of social development ,Youth center Maharagama .
In the second stage, Training on performing arts and awareness workshops on SRHR issues will be conducted. At the third phase, the participants will come up with their own performing productions. The last phase those productions will be shown at a public theater, Street drama in the towns (Galle, Kurunegala, Kandy, Anuradhapura, Colombo, Nuwaraeliya ).
Through these visual art productions, They will be read dressing the youth leadership to battle with social issues, gender norms and her social, political and economical role. The message they do communicate through these dramas will reach to the audience, stimulating discussion about these issues among civil society members. In addition, they will be youth focal points in the area to use their talents at grassroots level and address these issues in the cultural context. They will continue similar type of productions through the network they built.
