 Morocco Study Tour

This August we will be leading a group of Israelis (Jews and Arabs/Palestinians) and
internationals on a unique experiential and educational journey to Morocco.
During our program we will be exposed to Morocco's rich cultural diversity, to relations
between different identity groups, to conflicts as well as harmony, and to modernity
alongside tradition. We will encounter Morocco's various communities, cultures, and
landscapes – from the Sahara Desert through the Atlas Mountains, the big cities, the
coastal region, and the farming lands of the Meknes area. We will discuss the tensions
and conflicts between different identities, learn about gender issues and women's
status, and visit religious and cultural institutions and historical sites. We will combine
academic studies with cultural immersion and experiential learning, because in order
to learn one needs to think, and – more importantly – to feel.

Through learning about and experiencing Morocco, we will also gain insights about
Israeli identity, and in particular relations between Jews and Arabs and between
Jewishness and Arabness.

This unique program's team includes Dr. Adina Friedman, Visiting Scholar and Adjunct
Professor at the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University.
Her geographical areas of expertise include the Middle East and North Africa; Einat
Levi, an MS Candidate at the Conflict Research, Management, and Resolution program
at Hebrew University and Research Assistant at ECF; and lastly, Yehiel Hemmo, an
experienced guide with extensive knowledge of Morocco, who has been leading trips
since 1989.

Estimated Cost: Approximately $2000.
Dates: August 15-26, 2013 (exact dates will be available soon).
Application Deadline: July 25th, 2013
The course is open to students and non-students alike
***Space is Limited***

The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and its partners Arts Network Asia (ANA) and the European network Trans Europe Halles (TEH) call for joint proposals from Asian and European arts organisations for the 3rd edition of 'Creative Encounters: Cultural Partnerships between Asia and Europe'. The call for proposals is now open.
Through this programme, ASEF, ANA and TEH actively foster connections across cultures by supporting artistic collaborations, exchanges and dialogues.  Together, they aim to reinforce Asia-Europe exchanges with the objectives of deepening mutual understanding between cultural communities in the two regions, enhancing the mobility of artists and cultural professionals, and encouraging creative collaborations.
ASEF, ANA and TEH encourage organisations to submit multilateral activities that engage as many partners and participants from the 49 member countries of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and reflect the cultural diversity of the two regions. Proposals may come from any artistic discipline and must take place between 1 January 2014 and 30 November 2014. The submission deadline is 15 August 2013.
'Creative Encounters' directly responds to the Action Plan of the ASEM Culture Ministers which recognises "the important role of […] cultural organisations in promoting cultural diversity" and specifically calls for the promotion of "exchanges in the areas of performances, exhibitions, literary works and audio-visual programmes between Asian and European countries".
Eligibility:
  • Applicants and participants should be from ASEM member countries
  • Projects should be proposed jointly by a minimum of 2 partner organisations (not individuals) from ASEM countries, with at least 1 partner from each region
  • Proposals shall refer to result-oriented projects and/or activities that facilitate collaborations, exchanges and dialogues and between Asia and Europe
  • Event-based projects shall take place in an ASEM country
  • Online projects have to be managed from an ASEM country

Call for Applications, UK's Girls' Education Challenge for select countries in Asia and Africa

The UK's Girls' Education Challenge will support NGOs, charities and the private sector who can find better ways to provide education opportunities to marginalised girls in the poorest countries in Africa and Asia.
for more details see http://www.dfid.gov.uk/gec

Aim

Girls' Education Challenge will enable up to one million of the poorest girls in the world to enter and stay in school and receive an education which will transform their future.

Funding

The first round of funding will be open across nine priority countries: Afghanistan, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
This window of funding, called the Step Change Window, will be open to receive project concept notes from 1 May 2012.
Funding of up to £30 million will be awarded through a competitive process to NGOs, charities and private sector organisations (including consortia of organisations) who can demonstrate innovative ways of reaching marginalised girls. These are girls who have either had no access to education or have dropped out of school early and have received limited opportunities to learn.
Any successful application will need to demonstrate new ideas and cost effective approaches to reaching girls in the most difficult circumstances. Proposed projects should complement existing support to education in that country (including DFID bilateral support), have agreement from state authorities and demonstrate sustainability beyond the life of the Girls' Education Challenge. Funding from the Girls' Education Challenge will be awarded on the ability of organisations to deliver results for girls.
A second round of funding, called the Innovation Pilot Window, for smaller scale pilot programmes (up to £2 million) will be launched later this year. Details will be provided on this website by September 2012.
